Welcome to Greene’s College Oxford.
Greene’s College Oxford is an independent tutorial college offering A levels, GCSEs, retakes and one-to-one tuition. Teaching is built around the individual: small groups, personal attention, and study programmes shaped to each student’s goals. The college sits on Pembroke Street in central Oxford, a short walk from the city’s libraries, museums and university buildings.
The tutorial method
Every course is taught through the tutorial method. Students study a topic independently first — reading, problem-solving and preparing assignments — then meet a tutor to explain and refine what they have learned through discussion. A level tutorials run as 45-minute sessions with one to three students per tutor, so the tutor can draw out what a student knows rather than lecture. Prep work set between tutorials becomes the basis of the next session.

Progress is written up after every tutorial in a short report — known at Greene’s as a “slip” — and published to students and parents through the college’s Greene’s Online platform, alongside study plans and marked trial-exam scripts. The college reports that its tutors will submit around 39,000 tutorial reports this academic year.
Programmes at Greene’s
Programmes are built around the student. Students can enrol at any point in the year, take any A level programme, and work at their own pace, with a personal tutor managing progress throughout. Courses offered by the college include:
- Two-year A level and sixth-form programmes, plus one-year and fast-track routes
- GCSE programmes, including a two-year course and a fast-track option
- A level and GCSE retake programmes
- Revision courses, including Easter revision
- A gap-year programme and the Online Sixth Form
- Individual one-to-one tuition, including tuition alongside school or college study
Results and university destinations
In 2026, 45% of all A level grades awarded to Greene’s students were A* or A, against a national average of 28% in England, and 69% of grades were A* to B. Over the past five years, 43% of all grades awarded have been A* or A. Retake students improved by an average of 1.4 grades per subject in 2026; over five years, 73% of retake grades increased, and 27% increased by at least two grades.
Destinations have included Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, King’s College London, Edinburgh, Warwick, Glasgow, Sheffield, Southampton, Cardiff, Birmingham and St Andrews. In 2025, Greene’s students held offers from 23 of the 24 Russell Group universities. Since 1967 the college has helped more than 1,000 students to places at Oxford and Cambridge, and over the past nine years almost 80% of its students were admitted to their first-choice university.
Personal tutors and academic support
Each student is assigned a personal tutor who meets them weekly to review progress, resolve problems and keep work on target. The college’s Leadership Programme brings students together to reflect on their academic journey as a group, and students can sit up to four invigilated trial examinations per subject each year to see where they stand before the real thing.
Where students stay, and life in Oxford
Greene’s does not run segregated student accommodation. Instead it places students with host families in Oxford, where meals and laundry are provided — an arrangement the college finds helps students settle into the city quickly.

Student life is deliberately informal: pizza nights, a summer party and the college’s Christmas Ball in Oxford, with a student committee that gives students a say in what the college does outside the classroom.
Personalised support and care
Every Greene’s student follows an individual programme with close tutorial support, regular progress review, and guidance on university applications. cife can advise whether the Greene’s approach fits your circumstances — free, independent and without obligation.
